Grand Canyon University

Grand Canyon University (NASDAQ LOPE) is a for profit Christian University in Phoenix. GCU is home of 'lopes athletics which play in the recently constructed GCU Arena (events)

GCU was founded in 1949 in Prescott, Arizona as Grand Canyon College by the Arizona Southern Baptists. The school moved to Phoenix in 1951 where it gradually expanded and was accredited at Grand Canyon University in 1989.

To overcome ongoing financial difficulties the non-profit school was sold to a for profit entity called Significant Education, LLC in 2004 with went public and trades with the symbol LOPE. Since going public.

In recent years, the school has undergone major renovations adding a new arena, dorms and school buildings. The video below is a fun (over the top) student news report from June 1, 2012 which I grabbed from the school's Youtube channel
