In the United States, Deichmann operates Rack Room Shoes and Off Broadway Shoes. The US headquarters are in Charlotte, NC.

1913: Heinz-Horst Deichmann founded the company as a shoemaker workshop in Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
1919: Company begins selling manufactured shoes.
1945: Company reopens after WWII selling inventory they had hidden during the war and repairing shoes.
1963: The company had 16 stores in Germany.
1968: In five years the Deichmann grew to 1,100 stores.
1973: Deichmann acquired Swiss based Dosenbach Shoes and begins international expansion.
1975: Deichmann opened its 100th store.
1980: Opened its 200th store in Hannover.
1984: Deichmann expanded into the US by acquiring Lerner Shoes in the USA which had 20 stores which it renamed Rack Room Shoes
