Mr. Hertz was founder of the Yellow Taxi Cab Company and Yellow Truck and Coach Manufacturing and named Hertz-Drive-Ur-Self.

After a brief stint trading on the NYSE, Hertz was purchased by RCA, then by UAL (United Airlines), then Park Ridge Corporation (a division of Ford Motor Company).

In 2005-2006 Ford sold interest in the firm to a private equity group with went public in 2006 on the NYSE with the symbol HTZ as Hertz Global Holdings.
